Our Story

Hi, I'm Jack Jarvis, founder of The Magnolia Bureau.

I started my career as a journalist, covering West Virginia politics and government. Later, I spent nearly seven years leading communications for Fairness West Virginia, where I helped shape campaigns, launch statewide initiatives, navigate complex challenges, and grow one of the state's leading nonprofit organizations.

Along the way, I realized my favorite part of the job wasn't writing press releases or designing brochures. It was helping people think.

I loved sitting around a table, asking good questions, untangling complicated problems, and helping organizations figure out where they wanted to go. That's why I started The Magnolia Bureau.

I wanted to build the kind of firm I'd want to hire myself: thoughtful, collaborative, and genuinely invested in the people behind the mission. Our name reflects that philosophy. The magnolia represents roots, resilience, and work that's built to last. A bureau is a place where people come together to solve problems. Together, they represent the kind of partner I hope to be.

Whether we're building a communications strategy, planning a campaign, writing a grant, or tackling a new challenge, my goal is always the same: to be another thoughtful person at the table. Someone who listens first, asks good questions, and helps move good work forward.
